After the events of “Batman” (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, tries to take over the Gotham criminal underworld. Aside from the Bat-signal in the final shot of the season finale, we’ve never had a Robert Pattinson cameo in The Penguin. In this short video, IMDb tries to answer: where the hell was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but to no avail. However, in his own series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user who prefers cigars. The DC Studios logo is seen in a rainy Gotham alley. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Featured on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman, and I think those who haven’t seen the latest are a little lost. But I watched “Batman” a while back, and this show did a great job of quickly reacquainting me with the film’s premise without bogging me down in didactic repetition. It also captures the film’s dark tone and aesthetic well, though the show has far more moments of sly levity than the film does. As in “Batman,” Colin Farrell perfectly portrays Penguin as a stereotypical “street kid” mobster: crude, profane, unstable, and prone to violence; but also intelligent, cunning, and able to read people. The character may have absolutely nothing in common with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts that the show will give Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if Penguin’s shenanigans will be enough to last a full season. But so far, everything’s going great.
