Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found a mythical sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping a dystopia, or making the world a better place, these women are what science fiction is all about. This series uses material from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s Great Schools of Dune trilogy. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Rossak Sisterhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The instance of Valya Harkonnen using her voice comes from an event called “Mentats of Dune.” All three books intertwine the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentatis, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. Referenced in Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020) by AniMati. I don’t want to just criticize the first episode of a TV series, but this was mediocre in every way. The acting was mediocre, except for a few notable actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and maybe Travis Fimmel. The other actors felt like they just dropped out of film academy or something. The story was very vague and the dialogue wasn’t worth the dunes. I love slow-paced plays that take forever to develop because I know the payoff is worth the wait. But it wasn’t just slow, there was a lot going on, it was boring, I don’t know how else to put it. The soundtrack that runs through the films is a bit choppy here and there, with familiar sounds popping in here and there, but the timing isn’t great. I’ve heard a lot of music in here that didn’t make any impact. I was reminded of how much time we used to spend at the movies with people, just chatting, and then, boom, Hans Zimmer would work his magic, and I’d be emotional. But I know that’s not him making those noises, and I don’t even need to check. I’m not sure if Denis Villeneuve was involved with this production, I hope not. My question is, did he enjoy doing it? Could such a run-of-the-mill TV series, after two epic movies, have any impact on the long-awaited third film? I wonder if the fact that The Penguin was so good made me appreciate Batman even more than I did after seeing it, and I can’t wait to see the second film. So, how would Dune: Prophecy affect a third film, if there ever is one? Food for thought.
